The myth of the world-government

I don’t think there is any group which would rule the world.  Much less would have done so over several generations.  Large developments in history still don’t let themselves be controlled.  Means to control such simply does not exist.  Even if some things would be possible to control I don’t think they are centrally controlled.  If there had been such a control the organisation itself would have been noticeable.  Organisations and communications can never be entirely hidden.

The point is there does not exist any single global government.  Except for Antarctica the world’s landmass is divided between around 200.  (The exact number varies depending on definition.)  For the most part these act independently of each other.  This is called independent states which one has to differ between.  Neither are they necessarily evil just because they are governments.  To the opposite they vary over a wide spectrum.  At one end is a few which are mostly harmless.  At the other end there is North Korea.  People having managed to escape from there describe something most closely resembling a badly written dystopia.  But the description is too consistent to be made up.

I suspect the myth of a world government has its origin in the US.  A great deal of conspiracy talk comes from that country.  There is also a widespread ignorance on geography in general.  I have read about Americans arguing as if their country was communicatively isolated.  Or if their federal government would have global control.  In reality this control virtually stops at their county’s borders.  Which a non-negligible number of Americans don’t know where they are!  Some believe that Alaska and Hawaii would not be part of the country.  Others mistake other Western countries for part of the US.  Then it is not so strange if their government’s influence is overestimated.

Not only are many unaware on conditions in other countries.  Far too many has got the wrong idea of their own society.  They have never been taught how conflicting goals work.  Or about the social problems having arisen as unwanted by-effect.  As a result the US now have:

• Wealthy not knowing how life is for their employees.  What they perceive as social problems are themselves not getting as they want.

• Middle class people taking the opportunity to their own lifestyle for granted.  Their society’s deficiencies are unknown to them unless they have been stuck themselves.

• Poor believing their own problems would be created deliberately.  They can worry about their survival without the others knowing about this.

I think tens of millions of Americans belong to the two later.  (The wealthy are not at all as numerous as one might believe.)  This is matter of people not understanding the problems of others.  Or which believe their own problems would be caused by other people’s rights.  Both groups’ misconceptions are cabled out across the world.

The same type misconceptions are then applied to other societies.  Some seem to lack better explanation for what they see as social problems.  Above all the not properly thought out idea that humans different from themselves would be out to them.  Such ideas are adapted in loads of different counties.  People take over the underclass’ view of many things as zero-sum games.  Something they oftentimes are not.  Or copy the overconfidence in punishments rampant in the middle class.  As if it would detain people from what they were forced or fooled into.

Then it is not so strange if the myth of the world government spread.  Real or misunderstood American conditions are supposed to apply to other societies.  Even if they hold true in the US they don’t at all have to apply to any other countries.  Still they are supposed to do by people not knowing better.  They don’t try to check out how it is in their country.  Instead they take it for granted what they heard holds true.  Usually it does not.  How they can know such things they don’t ask themselves.

It does not help when the will of others is misperceived as totalitarian.  The government offering something is misunderstood as taking over everything.  Suggestions of increased government regulation are mistaken for total bans.  As if all increase in governmental intervention automagically led to totalitarian systems.  I don’t think any society has ever developed that way.  To the opposite loads of societies have found working solutions to the US’s problems.  This without the horrible consequences which some imagine.

The differences between various countries are not shallow like amusement parks.  Neither are they solely about differences in standard of living.  There are loads of different ways to organise things.  Several of them still exist.  The consequences of such differences are noticeable in society.  One has to be a shallow thinker not to notice them.  If there was a world government should it not be the same?  The fact that differences exist to me disproves central control.

Some agree about no world government existing.  However, they still claim it would come soon.  The trouble is that such talk has been going for decades now.  Meanwhile governments in different countries continue to behave as hash competitors.  I don’t think a world government is possible in my lifetime.  If it will ever become possible.  Does it become I think it will resemble global democracy.  Not a global dictatorship as such individuals apparently fear.
