Why does everyone have to behave the same?

Some appear to believe that one can solve problems by forcing people to behave as if they were normal.  Then the external behaviour in and of itself is believed to create inner normality.  Or external behaviour is the only thing one cares about.  Regardless of which aberration itself is considered a problem.  Something it does not always have to be unless one makes it into one.

One group falling victim to this are individuals with profound autism.  They have hard to learn much due to severely impaired theory of mind.  Add that they can perceive things considerably more or less intensely than other humans.  Then one gets individuals which may behave very weirdly.  Children with profound autism are braked to appear normal.  This with methods also abandoned in the braking of dogs.  The children are physically punished for not following instructions.  Them not understanding the instructions don’t seem to be considered.  It does not help when medical problems are mistaken for external behaviour.  The children are then not physically capable of what one tries to teach them.

Another group are children with anti-sex-stereotypical behaviour.  Some force them to dress as their sex stereotype dictates.  They are forbidden to play with toys not matching their stereotype.  Moreover, they are forced into sex-stereotypical activities.  All in the belief it would stop them from becoming LGBT people.  Please note that LGBT is for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transpeople.  Being any of these is an inborn characteristic.  Clothes, toys and children’s activities are completely irrelevant.

Previously things have occurred which went even further.  Deaf pupils have been forbidden from using sign language.  They would only read on the lips.  Some language sounds can then be hard to differentiate from each other.  On the other hand the sign languages may very well be full languages.  Please note there are many sign languages.  Their gestures have nuances which many not speaking them lack awareness of.  Are the deaf forbidden from using them they lose opportunities of expression.

All like those are done in the belief that giving the impression of normality is the best for everyone.  There are people not being able to behave normally.  To others it is painful to be forced into behaving like that.  To yet others it creates a load of unnecessary difficulties.  As a sensible utilitarian I am against such compulsions.  They only create loads of suffering which could be avoidable.  This suffering seems unknown to individuals trying to compel others.
