When trying to explain events human error always have to be considered. Some witch usually don’t are what I call conspiracy talkers. These are individuals with a tendency to believe there are conspiracies behind things. The claimed conspiracies are supposed to have characteristics like these:
1A. What the conspirators do is not in proportion to their goals.
1B. Or their goals are based on misconceptions on what they would earn from.
2A. The conspiracy is gigantic and encompasses entire groups of professionals.
2B. Or those which would have needed to be involved is underestimated by orders of magnitude.
3. The entire conspiracy is believed to go exactly according to plan.
4. The plan itself is so badly designed that people without any kind of systematic training can see it is fake.
5A. All involved are believed to keep a 100% quiet and lie consequentially their entire lives.
5B. Alternatively there are contradictory ideas on leaks.
Anyone contracting these ideas risk being accused of lying. Why would it not be humanly possible to perceive thing differently? I have heard about people isolating themselves on the Net. This can definitely fool people into believing in the myth of the law of small numbers. But can it really make people lose basic insights? Like understanding the difference between lying and being wrong.
Not only does individuality lead to things being perceived differently. Being able to judge something is an acquired skill. Moreover, judgemental ability is specific for each area. Different skills work best together with different personality traits. Natural selection has for this reason preserved some variation in mental characteristics. Different individuals can as such be good at judging different things. In contrast there are no individuals which can to correctly judge everything. Someone believing him- or herself able to do that lack insight into own limitations.
Nature can’t create the perfection some imagine. For this reason no organism can succeed in a 100% of the cases. This also applies to the human which abilities have biological limitations. Human error is one of them. Claimed conspiring groups consist of humans. Miscommunication may arise and people are affected by factors outside their own control. In particular things being outside control some don’t seem to spend a thought at.
Being highly trained decrease the risk of some errors. However, such a person is still capable of making the most unlikely error. One example is the examination of the first found Neanderthal. The skeleton was of an old man malformed by rheumatism. The signs of this were missed by he who first examined it. (Maybe this is where the myth of stooped “cavemen” comes?) Everyone later examining the skeleton found the traces of rheumatism obvious. This is why the scientific community exist. For the scientists to correct each other if someone does something wrong.
The military may have more secrets. But that mean no super ability to keep things secret. Such inevitably come out sooner or later. The more knows something the faster it comes out. Someone will change mind on the secrecy being worth it. Or someone will give him- or herself away. It can also be imagined that someone in the search for something else discover it by chance. In all such cases things will be told outright. Instead of expressing themselves cryptically whistle-blowers hand over insider information. One who can’t give any such I view as unreliable. There are people only claiming to have insider information. If they can’t make it public we don’t know if it exists.
Conspiracy talkers probably insist of the conspiracies being real. To believe this would be required to replace my entire view of humanity. That to one which is incompatible with what I know about evolution theory. The suspicion of strangers moreover seems to require egotism. What would differ my particular circle of acquaintances from all other circles of acquaintances? At least here in Sweden such are not isolated. My acquaintances know others I don’t know. They in turn know others my acquaintances don’t know. This way the chain of circles of acquaintances continues until the entire society is reached.
Stubborn conspiracy talkers don’t spend a thought of if they themselves do anything wrong. Just being contradicted they perceive as a threat. Never listening to criticism one makes no improvement is possible. The conspiracy talkers ideas are not perfect either. If one does not consider own error the risk of doing them increase. Such thoughtlessness gets consequences for people’s ideas of how it is. Not only do erroneous statements continue to be passed on. Misleading ways of thinking are neither ever corrected.
