Several myths on our evil nature has been thought out by monks and nuns. Not only Christian monks and nuns but also Buddhist ones. In the case of both religions, it was largely monks which have come up with these ideas.

People older than us of cause have more social experience. Some seem to extrapolate this long beyond a human lifetime. It is like they believed people living hundreds of years ago had hundreds of years of life experience.
On social nit-pickers

Some ones which can cause trouble to others is what I call social nit-pickers. Not nit-pickers which are social, but people behaving as nit-pickers towards the private lives of others.

I don’t think ill will exist because I can’t see it filling any evolutionary function. So why would humanity have it to a lager or lesser degree? Egoism, anger and revenge fills evolutionary functions.

When people are used by others without consideration of conflicting goals. Oftentimes the exploiter does not know the conflicting goal exist. I don’t think this was payed attention to until the 19th century.

It means different people wanting different things. Of cause, it happens people want the same thing. But you can’t presuppose this to always to be the case.

I once heard an American saying “nature is evil”. Now this was eavesdropped out of context. But I can’t help seeing this as a symptom of just how out of touch with the natural world too many Americans have become.
