Why I am for vaccination

Vaccine is the only medical treatment having larger effect on life expectancy.  Not a negative one – as vaccine opponents believe – but a positive.  If vaccine was potentially deadly it would have been noticed.  It is not like vaccination is something tremendously rare today.  To the opposite most of today’s children has been vaccinated.  At the same time most countries has a childhood mortality of less than 5%.  There is a negative correlation between degree of vaccination and childhood mortality.  In countries with a high degree of vaccination childhood mortality is usually lower.  If vaccine was highly dangerous it would have been higher.

Naturally vaccines are not entirely risk-free.  Vaccines can have by-effects which might be unpleasant.  Usually they go away quickly or are easy to treat.  Modern vaccines are tested to rarely or never create any more problems.  It of cause happens that people die not long after being vaccinated.  But then we have to figure out what it was the person died from.  It is misleading to take it for granted this was due to the vaccine.  Events without any kind of connection may happen after each other.  This possibility always has to be considered.

What people have forgotten is the diseases vaccinated against being dangerous.  Potentially deadly diseases often vaccinated against are:

Chickenpox

Covid-19

Diphtheria

Gastroenteritis

Influenza

Lockjaw

Measles

Mumps

Polio

Whooping cough.

Yellow fever.

Diseases can be dangerous in other different ways too.  If a pregnant woman suffers rubella the child may be born handicapped.  Chickenpox may lead to miscarriage if a pregnant woman gets it.  Polio is handicapping even if one survives.  However, this disease only occurs in a small number of countries nowadays.

Some claim the decrease in diseases is due to better hygiene.  The trouble is specific diseases have decreased in pace with the spread of specific vaccines.  Others communicated in the same way have not decreased at the same time.  If better hygiene was behind it these would have decreased too.  Now there are for sure diseases better prevented by hygiene.  This for example applies to cholera which is communicated trough contaminated water.  The vaccine against it is not so efficient.

Still there are people denying vaccines would work.  How does it then come that smallpox does not occur anymore?  No-one has had this disease since 1978.  It was eradicated by vaccinating people coming into contact with the ill.  This way the smallpox virus could not continue to be communicated.  Smallpox is the only disease we have managed to eradicate.  People tried to do the same with polio.  But this they failed at due to rumours about the vaccine.  It was claimed to be designed to make women sterile and men impotent.  Or so it was said to be contaminated with HIV.  The result was loads of people refusing to take the vaccine.  This in turn had the consequence of the attempt at eradication failing.

Overall the content of vaccine is the subject of myths.  For example mercury compounds have stopped being used in vaccine.  Some claim they contain cells from aborted foetuses.  Abortions would then be necessary to produce vaccines.  To inject human foetus cells in arbitrarily chosen individuals would be outright dangerous.  Such a vaccine would never be approved today.

Nowadays there are vaccines containing RNA.  These are claimed to work like gene therapy and replace characteristics.  In reality it is impossible for them to get into the genome.  Then it would in that case be required to contain something else too.  In the same way vaccines are claimed to contain chips for manipulation.  Such are still to large to be injected with vaccine.  This in excess of the absurdity of a chip in the arm would determine the content of the brain.  How could that possibly happen?

Finally it is false that autism spectrum conditions are caused by vaccine.  It has turned out that Andrew Wakefield forged his data.  He aimed specifically against the MMR vaccine.  However, people over-interpreted that as applying to all vaccines to small children.  There are large studies in Denmark made after his hoax.  Children have been registered with information on their parents allowing them to be vaccinated or not.  Then it has been compared to prevalence of autism spectrum diagnoses.  Such diagnoses were no more common among in vaccinated than unvaccinated.  I after all think it is inborn.  The number of diagnoses having increased is due to extended definitions.  In addition to this lesser difficulties are nowadays seen as problematic.
