The problems with UFO reports

UFO was originally acronym for unidentified flying object.  Unfortunately, there are a lot believing everything which is unidentified have to be made by aliens.  The result is there now being “ufologists” defending this wrongful idea.  I think they should be criticised for filling holes with aliens.  This is comparable to creationists filling holes in their understanding with God.  Both are equally faulty.

Now there are some hoaxes in this area.  Some individuals can lie and images and movies can be forged.  However, I don’t think most are.  Instead people misjudge things and misremember at a later date.  One example is the crash at Roswell in New Mexico in 1947.  I think what crashed as a secret spy balloon.  The event was not payed much attention to until the 70ies.  By then people mixed this up with other events in the 50ies.  Dummies were dropped by parachutes form airplanes in the area.  Memories of these different events have not been correlated with something which could be dated.  People then mixed up events which there were several years between.

Those believing themselves to have been abducted by aliens require a more specific explanation.  I think this is often about sleep paralysis.  What someone experiences at such an occasion is misinterpreted in culturally determined terms.  At one occasion there was a woman who was seen by several other people when she claimed to have become abducted.  According to them she remained all the time but behaved weirdly.  I think she got an epileptic seizure and misunderstood this experience.  Later her imagination went off with her.

Many UFO reports are about seeing something glowing at night.  Aircrafts flying together may be mistaken for a single big craft.  Individuals unfamiliar with the heavenly bodies may mistake planets for crafts.  Such are never reported by astronomers, neither professionals nor amateurs.  Naturally such individuals may also see something in the sky or the air which they can’t identify.  However, they then wonder what it is instead of mistaking it for a craft.

There are images taken in daylight claimed to show such crafts.  Those which are not pure forgeries show only fussy dots.  A great deal are by-effects of how light moves inside the camera.  Otherwise it can be flying animals or human aircrafts.  In addition there is a light phenomenon going by the name of backscatter.  They consists of hovering raindrops, snowflakes or grains of dust which reflect light towards the camera.  Single such can be mistaken for larger objects further away.

Movies can be claimed to show objects mowing is a way which is impossible.  This is “explained” by the object would be following certain natural laws but not certain others.  The laws of physics are not selective as Hollywood makes people believe.  In reality they affect everything to higher or lesser degree.  So claims of impossible movements came from human misjudgement.

Unlike what many believe the very most of UFO reports can be explained.  Then there has to be information like time, place, direction and equipment.  All with sufficient such information can be explained without aliens.  The rest have insufficient information to determine what it is.  If they don’t believe in things which have already been disproven “ufologists” rely on such.  Despite cameras becoming better all the time their “evidence” remains equally poor.  Individuals critically examining UFO reports talk about the low information zone.  As long as the “best evidence” is such they will not trust them.

I have made the educated guess that life is common in the universe.  Life on Earth arose as soon as it was possible.  So why would it not happen in other places in the universe?  However, it does not follow that aliens would already be here.  That they would be discovered in the Earth’s atmosphere is to me patently absurd.  Space is to empty and supervised for that to be possible.  If and when we find aliens it will be by telescope and/or our space probes.  When ʻOumuamua turned up in 2017 it was considered if it could be artificial.  Most scientists now agree the origin of the object to be natural.  Changes in direction and speed were too even to be deliberate.  Other explanations always have to be considered.  Getting stuck in premature conclusions does not work in the long run.
